Since May 3, 2025, Mali has experienced widespread pro-democracy protests in response to the government’s proposed dissolution of political parties and extension of the presidential term to 2030. Citizens have taken to the streets in Bamako and other cities, demanding democratic reforms and expressing concerns over increasing authoritarianism. Human rights organizations have condemned the government’s actions, highlighting the need for political dialogue and restoration of democratic processes.
